Tips for Small Business Owners

Running your own business has its benefits, but, as with all good things, it comes with a few personal sacrifices as well.  As an entrepreneur, it’s important to constantly pour into yourself, so you in turn, have enough energy to pour back into your business. Today, we’re going to break down five simple ways to ensure your taking good care of yourself without sacrificing your business’s success. We can assure you that by implementing these small changes into your everyday life, you’ll increase your mood, productivity, and overall happiness!

1. Make a Comprehensive To-Do List for the Next Day

This may seem redundant if you already have an ongoing to-do list running like most business owners. However, by taking five minutes each evening before signing off write down the absolute priorities that need to be done tomorrow, you set apart what’s most important which will keep you from feeling overwhelmed and frazzled the next day.

2. Make Set Times in Your Daily Schedule That Are Reserved for Self-Care

It’s no big revelation that self-care is important, but, as an entrepreneur, we’re often forced to sacrifice self-care time to tend to our business’s needs. By reserving a set time in your schedule every day to do something that isn’t ‘work-related’, you’re training yourself to differentiate between work and life.

3. Give Yourself Set Hours

As a business owner, you’re able to make your own schedule. This is both a blessing and a curse. You can work whenever you want, wherever you want, but sometimes this can become complicated when you find yourself answering emails after normal business hours, responding to phone calls on vacation, or working crazy hours to meet unrealistic deadlines. Entrepreneurs are humans too!  If you make set hours, and don’t allow yourself to work around the clock, your customers will respect you, and you are much less likely to get burnt out.

4. Hire More Help

No matter the size of your business, hiring more help if needed will always be beneficial if you can afford it. It’s easy to feel like you can take care of everything on your own, but that may eventually put a strain on your mental (and possibly physical) well-being. There’s nothing wrong with hiring an intern or even an assistant to help you stay organized and on top of things!

5. Create a Workspace You Love

Whether you’re working from home or have a brick and mortar location, creating a workspace that you love is so important! Your office is where you’ll be spending the majority of your time, and if it isn’t a place that sparks creativity and productivity, then you’ll most likely struggle staying inspired and focused. Fill the space with your favorite colors, all the right equipment you need, and a few personal touches, and you’ll really notice a difference!

We can’t stress enough how important it is to take care of yourself as a business owner! The way you treat yourself reflects on the success of your business, so be sure that you’re taking our advice and doing a few extra things each day to pour into yourself! Your business will definitely thank you.
